CANDLE CARE AND SAFETY TIPS
CANDLE CARE AND USAGE
TRIMMING WICKS-For clean and even burning, trim wicks to ¼” before each
lighting. This is recommended for all candles except tealights,
floaters, 4x9’s and 3-Wicks. Ball candle wicks should be trimmed only
when re-lit. Long, crooked wicks cause uneven burning or dripping.
BURNING TIMES-The first lighting of a bell-top pillar should be for 5
or 10 minutes-then gradually increase burning time for the next 4 or 5
lightings until the bell-top is gone.
As a general guide, burn pillar, square and 3-Wick candles approximately
1 hour for each inch of candle’s diameter-long enough each time for the
wax to liquefy to the edges. Don’t let the wax melt through the sides of
the candle. Remember to keep a flat surface, not a deep well.
HUGGING-Round pillar and 3-Wick candles require a small amount of care
to burn evenly. After burning for a few hours, gently press the soft wax
inward around the edges to maintain a flat surface. Do not hug square
candles.
DRIPPING-To avoid dripping, do not place candles near drafts or air
conditioners. If dripping does occur, wait for the wax to harden and
remove the excess.
BEAUTIFYING-Keep
candles beautiful by rubbing them gently with a fine mesh stocking to
heighten gloss and remove scratches.
AVOIDING FADING AND WARPING-Do not place candles in direct sunlight.
STORING-Keep candles in a cool, dry place.
REMOVING CARBON-If carbon builds on wick, extinguish candle, trim wick
tip for clean and even burning, and re-light. Avoid using in drafty
areas.
CANDLE SAFETY
Never leave a burning candle unattended! Extinguish the flame before
falling asleep or leaving the room.
Snuffing-To prevent wax from spraying and wicks drifting off-center use
a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. Don’t extinguish candles with
water as it may cause the wax to spatter or container to break. If you
must blow out the candles, maintain a safe distance and blow gently to
prevent spraying.
Metal Clips-Tealights and votive candles have a metal clip called a
sustainer, which is used to hold the wick. Be sure the wick remains
centered, and always remove the old sustainer before placing a new
votive in a holder.
Centering Wicks-Wicks in votives and tealights may have a tendency to
“float” to the sides, particularly if placed on an uneven surface or
near a draft. To avoid heating or breaking the container, keep the wick
centered. When burning a 3-Wick candle; point the wicks toward the
center of the candle.
Ingredients-Candles manufactured and sold by PartyLite use food-grade
wax. There is no lead in any of our wicks.
Children and Pets-Keep children and pets away from burning candles.
Wick-trimmings, Matches and Other Materials-Never leave debris in the
candle or holder.
Surfaces and Holders-Place candles on flat, even surfaces, at least one
foot away from combustible materials such as curtains. Always burn
candles in proper candle holders.
